For SEN parents who are exhausted and need help.

You're not imagining it and you're not alone.

Hey, I see you, The meetings, the letters, the endless emails. The feeling that nobody is actually listening.

You're not imagining it. You're not being difficult. And you are absolutely not asking for too much.

I've been exactly where you are, confused, overwhelmed, gaslit by the very professionals who were supposed to help. I know what it feels like to fight for a child who deserves more, in a system that nobody ever properly explains to you.

That's why I made this guide. Plain English, busy, stressed overwhelmed parents can understand, no jargon, just everything I wish someone had told me earlier.

Pop your details in below and I'll send it straight to your inbox. No catch, just a bit of clarity landing in your day.

This guide won't overwhelm you. It's short, honest and genuinely useful, two things to read today that will make you feel a little more in control tomorrow.

1) Are you being fobbed off?

Something doesn't feel right, things don't seem to be getting better, no one is offering help and your child is struggling. This section helps you name it. We look at the phrases schools and LAs use, the patterns to watch for, and the red flags that tell you it's time to push back. Your gut is usually right. This helps you trust it.

2) What the school can be doing right now, without an EHCP

Most parents don't know this exists. There is a whole layer of support your child can receive today, before any EHCP is even mentioned. This section tells you what it might look like and how to ask for it.

3) How to start the conversation

Because you can know it all but you need to feel confident voicing it, to make the change.

Need something deeper? I also offer a short course, SEND Support Explained, that covers the full picture: EHCPs and whether you even need one, the myths schools use, and how to challenge decisions.

A bit about me... I'm Kate. SEN mum first, advocate second.

I have three children, two with ASD and ADHD. Since 2012, I have fought with schools, healthcare and the LA to get them the support they need. My children have experienced school avoidance, mental health crisis, settings that couldn't meet need. I've sat in those meetings feeling confused and unheard. I've read those letters that say nothing helpful. I've been blamed and dismissed by people who were supposed to help us.

My March 2025 with two kids in mental health crisis and my own mental health suffering, I pulling the plug on mainstream education. We were [wrongly] advised by a head to home educate, and what followed was months of focus on healing my children and bringing their smiles back, before learning how to move forward. I completed my SEN Law Levels 1-3 qualifications in 2026.

I started SEND Defender because I had learn SEN law for my own children and was constantly getting asked for help and advise. I knew too many families were going through the same thing alone and so I started offering support. So now I have a wealth of lived experience, and SEN Law qualifications to back it up, I have made it my mission to give families what the system never gives them: clarity, confidence and someone who genuinely gets it. Because SEND Parents understand other SEND parents on a completely different level.
